“Seismic analysis of masonry buildings in historical city centres”
Lecturer: Professor Gabriele Guerrini, Civil Engineering and Architecture Dept. (University of Pavia, Italy)
Historical city centers are often characterized by building aggregates, where adjacent structural units share some structural walls. Different construction times and techniques, as well as practical difficulties in collecting information about all structural units in an aggregate, make their interaction challenging to understand and model. This webinar will focus on some of these issues.
– Thursday November 17th at 16:00 (Italian time – UTC+1):
“Vulnerability of existing masonry buildings under induced seismicity”
Lecturer: Dr. Stefano Bracchi, Researcher at EUCENTRE Foundation (Pavia, Italy)
This webinar will present a comprehensive study on the vulnerability of masonry buildings subjected to seismicity induced by gas extractions. Several experimental tests carried out at various scales, ranging from single components to entire buildings, will be discussed. The use of these results to develop reliable equivalent-frame numerical models will be finally discussed.
– Thursday October 20th at 16:00 (Italian time – UTC+1):
“Innovative strengthening solutions for masonry structures”
Lecturer: Professor Gabriele Guerrini, Civil Engineering and Architecture Dept. (University of Pavia, Italy)
This webinar will focus on new strengthening techniques for masonry walls, based on the application of FRCM materials or timber elements. Experimental findings and analytical tools will be presented.
– Thursday September 29th at 16:00 (Italian time – UTC+1):
“Improving connections against local mechanisms in masonry buildings”
Lecturer: Professor Gabriele Guerrini, Civil Engineering and Architecture Dept. (University of Pavia, Italy)
Global seismic analyses of masonry buildings rely on the assumption that local mechanisms are inhibited. However, these mechanisms have often been responsible of major damage and collapses in past earthquakes. This webinar will discuss some retrofit solutions to prevent their activation, by improving connections among intersecting walls and between walls and diaphragms
– Thursday September 15th at 16:00 (Italian time – UTC+1):
“Equivalent-frame modelling of masonry buildings with irregular opening layout”
Lecturer: Ms Chiara Morandini, Structural Engineer and PhD Candidate in Design, Modelling and Simulation in Engineering (University of Pavia, Italy)
This webinar will discuss some of the main issues with the equivalent-frame discretisation of walls with irregular opening distributions. Several cases will be analysed and practical solutions will be proposed.
